Peterborough Test Routes: Be Prepared
While DVSA examiners don't follow set routes anymore, there are common roads and areas that come up frequently on Peterborough driving tests.
The Test Centre
The Peterborough driving test centre is located on Thorpe Road (PE3 6BN). Tests typically last about 40 minutes and cover a variety of road types.
Common Test Areas
Thorpe Road & Longthorpe
- Leaving the test centre, you'll likely head along Thorpe Road
- Watch for the mini roundabouts near Longthorpe
- Speed limit changes — it goes from 30 to 40 and back
City Centre
- The Crescent Bridge roundabout catches many learners out
- One-way systems near the city centre require confident lane discipline
- Bus lanes — know when you can and can't use them
Fletton & Stanground
- Narrow residential streets with parked cars on both sides
- Meeting oncoming traffic — who has priority?
- School zones — extra caution needed during school hours
Orton Areas
- Larger roundabouts including the Orton Parkway
- Dual carriageway driving — joining and leaving safely
- Higher speed limits — maintaining appropriate speed
Hampton & The Serpentine
- Newer housing estates with speed bumps and tight turns
- Pedestrian crossings in residential areas
- Mini roundabouts in sequence
Key Skills Tested
Every test will include:
- Normal driving — following road signs and sat-nav
- One reversing manoeuvre — parallel park, bay park, or pull up on the right
- Independent driving — about 20 minutes following the sat-nav
- Possibly an emergency stop — 1 in 3 chance
